Hugar is the Icelandic duo which include Bergur Þórisson and Pétur Jónsson. Five years self-titled debut album, they released the sophomore Varða in 2019. Now they have released a new album called The Vasulka Effect: Music for the Motion Picture which is out now.
The digital album originated as a score that Þórisson and Jónsson created for the documentary about video-art pioneers Steina and Woody Vasulka, but it grew into something more: a 20-song album that enlarges a subtle dimension of the duo’s artistry while cementing their place among the world’s most formidable neoclassical post-rock groups.
The duo explain: “After doing the score for the film about Steina & Woody Vasulka, the pioneers of video art, we continued to be inspired by their story, warmth, creativity, art and groundbreaking technology so we kept working on the music. From that the album was born. Faded Reflection draws from their New York years, when they started the legendary art space The Kitchen and found their place in the rich New York art scene at the time.“
