Tayuka Kuroda is a New York based jazz trumpeter and composer. He has announced the release of a new album called Fly Moon Die Soon which will be out on September 18th via First Word Records. According to the press release, it is a major departure from his previous work, built on beats created at home by Kuroda, and then finished in studio with engineer Todd Carder.
The two built the tracks up intuitively, adding processed sounds, samples of Kuroda drinking coffee – anything was fair game – and then invited guests in. The result is an album with a distinctive and coherent sound, one that balances the rough and exciting sound of improvisation with carefully layered studio tracks.
In Kuroda’s words, “this album is about the irony between the greatness of nature and the beautiful obsceneness of humanity. Melodies and grooves fly back and forth from being spiritual to being vulgar.”
