Joaquin Garcia is a Mexican singer-songwriter and musician. He has announced the release of a new EP called Let Them Sleep which will be out via Pedro y el Lobo. It follows 2018′ sophomore album The Riverman. Today we have the pleasure to premiere a new track called “Breathe In/Breathe Out“.

According to the press release, it is a melancholic mix of folk melodies, shoegaze atmospheres and profound lyrics. Joaquin’s voice flows naturally between mesmerizing hushed verses, beautiful distant falsettos and an intense chilling crescendo. The song confirms a more ethereal and experimental phase of Garcia’s music, which was hinted in his previous single “Stepping Stones”.

Joaquin started writing “Breathe In / Breathe Out” when he was just 18 years old. There is even a demo version of the track in a 2012 live EP. Back then, his sound was determined by the obvious folk setup of acoustic guitar and vocals, but one could hear something special in the lyrics that dealt insightfully with the existential void we all come of age with. Twelve years later, this single stands as proof of songs being living entities and of Joaquin Garcia’s remarkable patience and craftsmanship. He doesn’t seem worried about his songs being catchy or readily accessible anymore; instead he focuses on creating textures that suit the complexity of his themes.
