We asked to different musicians, producers, bloggers, journalists, label owners to make a short list of their best albums of this year. This is the list curated by London based, all-female multi-instrumentalist chamber music collective Collectress.

Max Richter – Sleep (2015).. Minimalist synthy monotony, very pure and beautiful, very sleep inducing.

Thom Yorke – Anima. Can’t get enough of this, Thom Yorke just keeps getting better and better. Love the dance film he made for the album too. It’s all about the polyrhythms and the abstract dance.

Sampa the Great – The Return. We only heard this Melbourne based, Zambian born rapper this year and fell in love immediately. Fresh and strong, relentless and peaceful. This record gives us hope.

Cosmo Sheldrake – The Much Much How How and I. Its 2018 but a recent discovery for us – playful imaginative sweet and energised.

John Johanna – Seven Metal Mountains . Raw referential heartfelt much needed.
