We asked to different musicians, producers, bloggers, journalists, label owners to make a short list of their best albums of this year. This is the list curated by Danish band Blaue Blume.

Tyler The Creator – Igor. Just great production. The song writing is good too, but I can just keep on discovering the sonics of this record. It’s very daring I think. Low mixed vocals and distorted elements all over. It shouldn’t really be an easy listen but listening to this record in its entirety is a lot of fun.

Floating Points – Crush. This record keeps surprising me. The depth of the arrangements and the dualities in instrumentation is truly remarkable and original. Floating points has succeeded in creating something which seems very human despite it being made with almost only electronic instruments.

Big Thief – Ufof. The mixture between the intimate folk inspired way of playing, Buck Meeks guitar playing and Adrienne Lenkers singing and her lyrics creates a sensation of danger and fragility at the same time. The song writing is in particular worth paying attention to. It is honest and sincere and fresh despite sounding old, which is interesting.

Thom Yorke – Anima. The crying melodies and melancholic mood on this record gives me the creeps. The structure of every song and the architecture of every little sound or detail is truly extraordinary.

Jessica Pratt – Quiet Signs. This record really excels in creating a very strong vibe and mood with almost no means. Guitar and Vocals is almost all there is but it doesn’t feel like “just” a singer-songwriter thing. The room that the songs are set in is very real but still otherworldly. You feel every nuance of her voice and her guitar at all times.
