We asked to different musicians, producers, bloggers, journalists, label owners to make a short list of their best albums of this year. This is the list curated by French artist Awir Leon.
SiR – Chasing Summer. Such a great album, he brings rnb that is happening today, production is beautiful. Not many artists do that for me at the moment so that’s one more reason, not that it even needs extra points. I can listen to this for hours, perfect balance of easy and challenging in my opinion.
Bon Iver – i,i. I was so so in love with 22, a million, but listening to i,i for the first time 22 suddenly felt more of a transition from earlier works to this. Mind blowing on every aspect. Also love how Justin is as much in the foreground as in the background, at his level of recognition, that shows such a strong position from him, the music is the thing. And it beautifully is.
M. T. Hadley – Empty. I discovered the guy because of an instagram post from Airhead, and I love his music. Music that feels so deceivingly simple to receive, yet it manages to grab the most human part of you. Such solid songwriting, and a delivery that really grabs my ear the whole way through.
Thom Yorke – Anima. Do I need to even say anything about this? Haha. Big Thom in full force.
Mac Demarco – Here Comes the Cowboy. Probably my number one of the year, if there needs to be one. So beautifully crappy and yet so perfect it becomes a monument for me, especially in 2019. First time I listened to it I felt like I was in the weirdest dream, and through that dream all my relationship problems had been adressed haha, loved the feeling. I was lucky enough to catch them during the tour and the gig was sooo good. Mac for president.
