We asked to different musicians, producers, bloggers, journalists, label owners to make a short list of their best albums of this year. This is the list curated by Toronto-based artist Brad Deschamps aka anthéne.

Alex Twomey – The Entertainer (Recital Program)

Probably my favourite record released this year. Really lovely short and varied pieces of piano, strings, brass as well as some minimal ambience.

Claire M Singer – Trian (Touch)

A collection of her Solas album and Fairge EP released as 2 LP’s. I loved both releases when they initially came out and was really happy to see Touch release them together on LP. Lovely organ and string works.

Leo Svirsky – River Without Banks (Unseen Worlds)

When I listen to this I’m somehow reminded of both Erik Satie and Steve Reich. Such a unique piano based record. I’ve spent a lot of time with this album in the past few months.

Malibu – One Life (Joyful Noise)

This might be the most blissful ambient release I’ve heard all year. It’s a shame it was such a limited LP release, I missed out on getting a copy. She has put together a gorgeous blend of synthesizers and strings. There were many days when I was at work that I just let this play on repeat for hours.

Scott Campbell – Stillness (Seil)

I loved Scott’s previous album Photos From the Flood, and Stillness might be even better. This album has so many great melodies and textures. A really great headphone listen.
