Two years after Clutched in the Maw of the World, Canadian Montreal-based musician and composer Adrian Copeland aka Alder & Ash returned with a new album. The Crowneater is out now as self-release. He continues to push the cello to extremes of minimalism and maximalism. Focusing on what he calls “chamber doom”, he brings together classical chamber music with noise, metalcore, industrial and doom metal.

Using only the cello and effects, the atmospheres are detailed and descriptive, as they explore the internal dissonances of the modern world: the futility and powerlessness of a world deformed by capitalism, the horror and humiliation of modern patriarchy, the anxieties of planetary death by climate change.
