Provincials are a British dark-folk duo based in Hampshire, which include singer Polly Perry, formerly of Polly & the Billets Doux and guitarist Seb Hunter. They announced the release of their sophomore album The Dark Ages which will be out on November 15th via Itchen Recordings. It follows 2014’s debut album Muhzik.

Today we have the pleasure to premiere the official video of the new track “Cat’s Cradle” which shows the evocative and delicate female vocals and the growing rhythms of the sound which starts with dreamlike lines and turn into powerful and vigorous textures. It features Steve Gibson on drums (the original recording are played by Dan Parkinson). The official video is directed by Clive Tagg.

In terms of the theme for “Cat’s Cradle”, guitarist Seb Hunter explains, “the track was conceived as a piece of ecstatic sonic release and is lyrically a paean to self-abandonment in the face of love – losing yourself to the exquisite, even in the face of certain doom”.
