Ishmael Ensemble is the project of multi-instrumentalist, producer and DJ Pete Cunningham. The band feature Jake Spurgeon (modular synth, keys, sarod), Yazz Ahmed (flugelhorn), Ross Hughes (bass clarinet, alto flute), Rory O’Gorman (drums), Stephen Mullins (guitar), Jackson Lapes (percussion).

Influences flow freely too, ranging from Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, Radiohead, Mahavishnu Orchestra and Roni Size/Reprazent, to the ambience of Yellow Magic Orchestra’s Haruomi Hosono and Ryuichi Sakamoto.

After the vinyl trilogy inspired by Bristol, he released the first full-lenght. A State Of Flow is out now via Severn Songs records. He shared a new video for the track “Yellow House” which features Yama Warashi. Watch it below.

The track pays homage to the Dower House, one of Bristol’s most iconic buildings, explains Ishmael Ensemble’s Pete Cunningham:
“I’ve always found the Dower House comforting. Like a landlocked lighthouse looming over the main route in and out of the city, it marks the start and end of many journeys. As our touring schedule increases, this bright yellow beacon continues to give me a sense of both homecoming & adventure. After hearing Yoshino shared a similar affinity with the building on a radio interview, it felt like the perfect theme on which to base our collaboration.”
