House and Land is the Appalachian folk duo that involves guitarist Sarah Louise and Sally Anne Morgan of Black Twig Pickers. Two years ago, we introduced them with self-titled debut album. Now they announced their sophomore full-length. Across The Field is out on June 14th via Thrill Jockey. We already shared “Carolina Lady”; “Rainbow ‘Mid Life’s Willows” is a new excerpt.
According to the press release, A traditional song sourced from the Ozarks, House and Land’s inventive arrangements highlight the harmonic beauty and heartbreaking themes of the original, while experimenting with instrumentation to breathe new life into the piece. Fiddle and banjo player Sally Anne Morganlays down rich string drones, using an overbowed fiddle technique to add depth and texture, while Sarah Louise’s lithe guitar loops and ethereal vocals anchor the melody.
