We asked to different musicians, producers, bloggers, journalists, label owners to make a short list of their best albums of this year. This is the list curated by Berlin based DJ, producer (and also known as founder of Blacksilk Records) Marc Ash.
Geodetic – Cold Lights (Instruments of Discipline)
Slow, intense with captivating rhythmic workouts. Great airy industrial masterpiece.
Exhausted Modern – Ampér (Brokntoys)
Deep and charming electro hidden gem right out from a label that keeps surprising. Call it “new school electro” if you want, well I’m totally into it.
Course Correction – The Tunguska Event (Nein)
Nice dark electro EP that brings my memory back to the early ‘00s Gigolos golden age. But without the cheesy part.
Further Reductions – Disparate Elements (Knekelhuis)
Can you behave dirty and refined at the same time? Apparently yes.
CUB – Seeing from Above (Downwards)
I love this slower and instrospective part of Karl’s creative output, brought to surface by his longtime mate Simon Shreeve. This does continue to look like a very fruitful fellowship.
