Three years after All My Favorite Singers Are Willie Nelson, Calgary based musician and songwriter Matthew Swann aka Astral Swans released a new album. Strange Prison is out now via Canada’s Saved By Vinyl, Japan’s Moorworks, and the Netherlands’ Tiny Room Records. It was produced by (and featuring) Preoccupations’ Scott Munro with Arts & Crafts artist Dan Mangan and includes guest musicians such as Destroyer’s Daniel Gaucher. He shared a new video for the title-track. It was directed by Mitch Nybo.

His words about it: “For the ‘Strange Prison’ video (which is literally a song about mental illness) we maintained the psychedelia with an absurdist representation of paranoia, obsessive and intrusive thinking, depression, humiliation, and trauma. It’s intentionally troubling, while merging the distressing visions with a mundane effect. Mitch did an astonishing job of beautifully capturing these two dichotomous moods. I get by with a little help from my friends.”
