Two years later collaboration with Howe Gelb, Vienna trio Radian have announced the release of a new album. The project involves Martin Brandlmayr (drums, electronics), John Norman (bass), and Martin Siewert (guitars, electronics). On Dark Silent Off will be out on November 11th via Thrill Jockey Records. “Scary Objects” is the first excerpt. Listen below.
On Dark Silent Off has been in the making since the early 2010s, with each piece being meticulously crafted and re-constructed over time. Debut track “Scary Objects” began its life as a live score to a Ben Russell film as part of his Trypps series, and features Radian’s signature blend of dynamic, percussive grooves with nontraditional instrument timbres.
Radian’s recording/creative process takes a central role in shaping the pieces. It is a two-fold process of creating material through improvisation, sound experiments and processing on the one hand, and a routine of carefully selecting and editing this material on the other.
